Luxury in Sanur, Bali

We have just come back from a trip to Bali, Indonesia for a week of luxury in a three bedroom pool villa at the Intercontinental Bali Sanur.

We love Sanur because it is nowhere near as busy as the likes of Kuta and Legian but it has very high quality dining options within a couple of minutes walk, as opposed to Nusa Dua resorts.

Whilst it is more laid back, Sanur is on the eastern side of Bali and is great for sunrise shots over the water. Sanur features a paved walkway along the beach strectching nearly 10km. We found that perfect for morning walks before hitting the buffet.

The Intercontinental is part of IHG Hotels and has always provided a level of sophistication to our Bali stays. The food and beverage offerings are excellent within the resort and the locale provides bountiful choice for upmarket dining to cheaper options along the beach and in town. A stand-out for me is Massimos Italian Restaurant. The food is outstanding with Pizza and Pasta featuring heavily on the menu. But the big draw card for Massimos is the ice-cream and gelati bar at the front. They have literally dozens of flavours available and there is always a line for service.

Having a three bedroom villa was quite a special treat for three brothers travelling together. We each had our own spacious bedroom with its own TV and balcony as well as a huge ensuite with shower, bath, toilet and two hand basins.

The lounge area was adorned with a large couch and some single chairs as well as a TV. This opened up to a large pool for private swimming.

With a kitchen featuring a large fridge/freezer, we were able to buy our own drinks outside and store them in the fridge, saving us quite a bit of money.

The villa provided us with a feeling that we were the only guests on the property and at over 500 sqm, we individually felt as though we had penty of personal space.

You can’t visit Sanur without going to Icon Bali, a 35 minute stroll up the beach walking path. Icon is full of great shops and restaurants and very much worth the visit.

And of course, when in Bali, massages are the order of he day. Claudia Spa, just around the corner from the Intercontinental, provided great value for money massage services. For those looking for a more refined therapy, The Nest is also nearby and is definitely worth spending the extra money on.

Another restaurant that is worth mentioning is Hi Ni Hao, located on the same street as the hotel, HNH, as it is known, does Chinese food very well. Their Orange Chicken and Fried Rice are two stand outs. Very good value dining and highly recommended.

We did a walking foodies tour of Denpasar which was a really good way to mix with the culture of Bali and learn how the locals eat. Very much worth doing.
